Science & Technology Week 2017

A new edition of the Science & Technology Week 2017 is taking place at the Department of Chemical Engineering with the participation of LEPABE. Till the end of this week, and on the motto: "Technological advances in emerging areas of chemical, environmental and biotechnology engineering" we welcome high school and university students into our research laboratories. Ana Ferreira awarded Harry Earl Memorial 2017 Award

LEPABE Project Researcher Ana Ferreira was awarded the prize "Harry Earl Memorial 2017" for her work on the effect of magnesium lignosulfonates on urea-formaldehyde resins (Project 2GAR) at the International Panel Products Symposium 2017, which was held in October, 4-5th, at Llandudno, Wales.

Adélio Mendes awarded Technological Innovation Award

LEPABE Researcher Joana Barbosa awarded 3rd prize on the Business Ignition Programme

A team led by LEPABE Post-doctoral Researcher Joana Barbosa was awarded the 3rd prize in the Business Ignition Program 2017, promoted by U. Porto Inovação, with the project Cropeo. This program intends to facilitate the transition of ideas developed in academia into successful business models. Cropeo project intends to exploit the potential of essential oil vapors for insecticide, fungicide and bactericide actions in protection of stored cereals, using controlled release devices.

Course in Polymer Science and Technology

LEPABE senior researchers Fernão Magalhães and Adélio Mendes are organizing a new edition of the Course in Polymer Science and Technology, promoted by ARCP. This course is mainly directed towards industry members. The teaching staff is composed of university professors from FEUP, FCTUC, UA and UM.

The originality of his research and his deep involvement with the industry through collaborative projects were crucial in this attribution.

SORPTION ENHANCED REACTION PROCESSES by Luís Miguel Madeira

Professor Luis Miguel Madeira is author of the book Sorption Enhanced Reaction Processes together with Professor Alírio Rodrigues, Rui Faria and Yi-Jiang Wu. This book provides undergraduate and graduate students of chemistry and chemical engineering, researchers and industrial engineers with a clear path towards development of this type of processes.

European Researchers Night

Two FCT Exploratory Research Projects for LEPABE

LEPABE congratulates the researchers Luísa Andrade and José Carlos Pires for winning two FCT Exploratory Research Projects, under the subjects “New technological advances for the high-efficient perovskite solar cells” and “Design configurations of photobioreactors for cultivation of microalgae: bioprocess modelling and sustainability assessment”, respectively. Each project represents an investment of 50 000,00 €.

LEPABE's Biofilm group wins European Project

LEPABE congratulates the Biofilm Engineering Lab (BEL) for winning a European project under the Interreg Programme with an investment of 230 000 EUR. The project CVMAR+i aims the valorization of the marine biotechnology through specific collaborations between companies and research centers that leads to industrial innovation on the sector.

Luís Miguel Madeira was awarded with the Pedagogical Excellence Prize 2016, by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto. He is associate professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering and the Course Director of the Integrated Master in Chemical Engineering. He is also Senior Researcher at LEPABE’s Environmental Sciences and Technologies research group.
FEUP Scientific Excellence Prize 2016

Adélio Mendes was awarded with the Scientific Excellence Prize 2016, by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto. He is full professor at the Chemical Engineering Department and the Coordinator of LEPABE’s research group of Processes, Products and Energy. His research interests are on photoelectrochemical and electrochemical systems, membrane reactors and adsorption and membrane gas separations.
